Recommendations For Scouts

Is your troop planning a trip to Savannah, GA? Is your daughter a member of Girl Scouts? We have some great tips for you in our “Guide for Girl Scouts Traveling to Savannah!” Savannah is the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts of the USA, and offers many opportunities to learn, have fun, earn badges, and build memories.

I have highlighted some of my favorite Girl Scout activities below! Please note that this website is not affiliated with the Girl Scouts of the USA and these opinions are my own!

Girl Scout First Headquarters

No trip to Savannah would be complete without going to the Girl Scout First Headquarters, the carriage house of Juliette Gordon Low’s childhood home. It was willed to the Girl Scouts in 1927 to serve as The Girl Scout First Headquarters building. Located in the heart of historic Savannah, this site houses a museum and a shop. Tours are offered daily.

Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace

Girl Scouts of the USA owns and operates the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace. This unique house museum is a National Historic Landmark. Visitors can follow Juliette Gordon Low’s extraordinary life and how the Girl Scout Movement was founded. Today, the house stands in honor of Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low, the first Girl Scout.

Old Town Trolley Tours

This company is perfect for groups. They also offer a wide variety of tours! Tours cover historic sites, ghosts, and more!

Jepson Center for the Arts

This art museum always features amazing exhibits from around the world. We love visiting this museum year-round. This is also one of the Telfair Museums – there are several great museums associated with the Telfair!

Savannah African Art Museum

African art and culture are introduced at the Savannah African Art Museum providing engaging experiences to patrons. Their aim is to educate audiences about the spirituality, diversity and power of African art. Admission is free.

Plant Riverside

This is relatively new to the Savannah area. If you want to check out the Savannah River, start here – there is a long path along the river that starts at Plant Riverside. The streets are consistently pressure washed and the area offers free shows to passersby. Also, did we mention that inside one of the hotels there is a GIANT CHROME DINOSAUR REPLICA!? Additionally, next to the dinosaur, there is a huge display of geodes from Richard Kessler‘s private collection.

Oyster Art in the Park

While your troop is in Savannah, schedule a time to create your own oyster art – and earn an Outdoor Art badge! The oyster shells decorated for this workshop are typically harvested from local oyster beds in the Bull River harvest area.
